Future Programmers often use Qbasic to make simple programs. Qbasic is actually not available for Ubuntu. But thanks to DOSBox Emulator, it’s possible. Here are instructions on how to use Qbasic on Ubuntu.

  1. Download olddos.exe and copy it in your Home Folder:

    wget http://download.microsoft.com/download/win95upg/tool_s/1.0/w95/en-us/olddos.exe

  2. Download DOSBox Emulator and Install it:                                                     http://za.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/universe/d/dosbox/dosbox_0.72-1.1build1_i386.deb

3.Open DOSBox(found in games menu) and type the Following:

a. mount c /home/USERNAME/

b. C:

d. Y

4. After this, to run Qbasic normally, do the following

a. mount c /home/USERNAME/

b. C:

c. Qbasic.exe

Note: To use Qbasic in Full Screen: Alt+Enter

To return back to normal screen: Alt+Enter

I tried running cmd.exe using Wine on Ubuntu. I did not work, of course, because it needed other resources that are not present inside Wine nor Ubuntu.
